2009 John C. Webster Memorial Trophy Competition Finalists

Cory Raby

Cory Raby
Cory-Daniel Raby is 19 years old and 2009 Webster Trophy Winner. Cory represented the Eastern Ontario Region in the competition. He holds a Commercial Pilot Licence with a Night Rating and Multi-engine Endorsement and began learning to fly in 2008. Cory is enrolled in the Algonquin College Aviation Diploma programme and flies out of the Ottawa Flying Club, Ottawa, Ont. Cory’s parents gave him a lesson for his 15th birthday and after that he was hooked. He hopes to develop a career in Commercial Aviation.
Kevin Dhaliwal

Kevin Dhaliwal
Kevin Dhaliwal is 24 years old and the 2009 Runner-up. Kevin represented the British Columbia Region in the competition. He holds a Commercial Pilot Licence with Night Rating and Multi-engine Instrument Rating and began learning to fly in 2006. He is flying out of Coastal Pacific Aviation in Abbotsford, B.C. Kevin also competed in the 2008 competition and represented BC then as a regional finalist as well. His first time in an aeroplane was at the age of 12 on a trip to England and he wanted to fly ever since. Kevin is moving forward towards a career in Commercial Aviation.
Nicholas Sneider

Nicholas Sneider
Nicholas Sneider is 17 years old and represented the Alberta Region in the competition. He received a Private Pilot Licence in 2007 and is flying out of Cooking Lake Aviation Aacademy in Sherwood Park, Alb. Nicholas lived near a hub of aviation activity while growing up and this generated his high interest in aviation. He received his licence on his 16th birthday! He hopes to have his Commercial Pilot Licence and multi-engine instrument rating by his 18th birthday.
Competition Comment: I had an awesome time and met a lot of really great people. A ton of fun.
John Painter

John Painter
John Painter is 22 years old and represented the Manitoba Region in the competition. He received a Private Pilot Licence in 2008, added a Night Rating and is flying out of Harv’s Air Service at St. Andrew’s, Man. His instructor was Lisa Klassen who was a Webster finalist in 2006 and 2007. John plans to go on to a professional career in aviation.
Aaron Lehman

Aaron Lehman
Aaron Lehman is 19 years old and represented the Northern Ontario Region in the competition. He currently holds a Private Pilot Licence with Sea Endorsement and is training at Confederation College in Thunder Bay, Ont. Aaron is also working as a dispatcher there as well. He learned to fly though Confederation College in 2009. He took his first flight at a local flying club as a birthday present from his parents and became hooked on aviation. Aaron aspires to begin a professional career flying floats or instructing with his ultimate goal to fly with a major carrier.
Phiroze Contractor

Phiroze Contractor
Phiroze Contractor is 22 years old and represented Western Ontario in the competition. He received a Private Pilot Licence in 2007, added a Night Rating and Multi-engine Endorsement and is flying out of the Brampton Flight Centre, Brampton. Ont., who also hosted the competition this year. The inspiration for learning to fly comes from his father who is an airline pilot but also through the encouragement of a very close friend and mentor who unfortunately recently passed on.
Mathieu Beaumier

Mathieu Beaumier
Mathieu Beaumier is 25 years old and represented the Quebec Region in the competition. He received a Private Pilot Licence in 2007, added a Night Rating and is flying out of Cargair at St. Hubert, Que. His father took flying lessons and subsequently bought a Piper Warrior which inspired Mathieu all the more to learn to fly as well. A former RCAF pilot teaching ground school has inspired him even more with the love of aviation. Mathieu recently graduated from Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal in computer engineering.
Thomas Clark

Thomas Clark
Thomas Clark is 24 years old and represented the Atlantic Provinces in the competition. He received his Private Pilot Licence in 2009, added a Night Rating and is flying out of Moncton Flight College, Moncton, N.B. His dream is to become involved with vintage aircraft and hopefully be able to fly some one day. Thomas was encouraged to enter the Webster by last year’s runner-up, Trevor Le Marquand. Thomas hopes to move on into a career in commercial aviation.
Competition comment: I had a blast and would love to let everyone know how great it was.
