2007 John C. Webster Memorial Trophy Competition Finalists

Andrew Midcalf

Andrew is 28 and the 2007 Webster Memorial Trophy Winner. He currently holds a Private Pilot Licence with both night and multi-engine endorsements and is en route to a Commercial Pilot Licence with hopes of a career in commercial operations. Andrew has come to Canada from the U.K. and learned to fly at the Brampton Flying Club. Andrew was in the Royal Air Force as an aircraft technician working on Hercules for most of his time in the RAF. Andrew represented Western Ontario this year.

Update: Andrew now has his initial Flight Instructor Rating and is instructing for Brampton Flight College.

Andrew is 19 years old and is the 2007 Webster Memorial Trophy Runner-up. He holds a Private Pilot Licence with night endorsement and also a Glider Pilot Licence. He learned to fly at Harv’s Air Pilot Training and at the Edmonton Flying Club and is currently a dispatcher at EFC. He is attending the University of Alberta, faculty of engineering and hopes to become a flight instructor in the near future. Andrew represented Alberta this year at Webster.

Lisa is 22 years of age and this is the second year in a row she has competed in the Webster competition. She holds a Commercial Pilot Licence and is a recent graduate from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Music. Lisa learned to fly at the Winnipeg Flying Club and is currently a dispatcher with Harv’s Air at St. Andrews. Lisa represented Manitoba at Webster this year.

Update: Lisa now has her initial Flight Instuctor Rating and is instructing for Harv’s Air, St. Andrews, Man.

Alex is 21 years old and holds a Private Pilot Licence with night endorsement. He learned to fly initially at Stratford Air Services and is currently finishing his Commercial Pilot Licence training at Sault College. Alex wishes to pursue a career as a professional pilot and this year represented Northern Ontario in the competition.

Michael is 34 years old and holds a Private Pilot Licence with a night endorsement. Michael also holds a B.Sc in Geology from the University of Waterloo and a Human Resource Management diploma from McMaster. Michael learned to fly at Peninsulair and hopes to pursue a career in aviation and would especially like to become an astronaut with the Canadian Space Agency. Eastern Ontario was represented by Michael at the Webster competition this year.

David is 21 years old and holds a Private Pilot Licence with both night and multi-engine endorsements. He learned to fly at the Ottawa Flying Club and is completing his commercial training there. David has also begun working toward a B.A. and currently works at Esso Avitat at the Ottawa International Airport. David represented Ottawa Valley & Quebec this year at Webster.

Update: Dave has completed his Multi-engine Instrument Rating and has been employed by Execair, Ottawa, ON flying a Mitsubishi MU-2.

David is 32 and currently holds a Private Pilot Licence with night endorsement. He learned to fly through the Moncton Flight College ICPC program and is completing his commercial training there. He aspires to become a flight instructor and pursue a career in aviation. David represented the Maritimes in this year’s Webster competition.

Update: Dave recently completed his initial Flight Instructor Rating and was immediately employed by Moncton Flight College, Moncton, NB.

Mitchell is 26 years old and hold a Private Pilot Licence with a night endorsement. He learned to fly at Island Air Flights and hopes to move on into commercial operations. Mitchell represented British Columbia as a competitor this year.
